Oddness in text display

Post by Vidal »

I've been having some trouble with the way Mudlet is displaying text. It doesn't happen every time, but it's been more frequent of late.

Not sure how to put images in here, so here's a link:

The only scripts I have are Vadi-Sipper and a few basic bashing, anti-theft and curing aliases.

Any help is very much appreciated.

I'm not sure what the problem is, honestly. You have MXP enabled, which is showing you the HTML-esque tags and you can turn it off with CONFIG MXP OFF.

Otherwise, can you be a bit more descriptive?

The HTML-esque tags were the problem. I've never seen it before so I thought I messed something up pretty awfully... Now I know better I guess?

Thanks

It's really just a lacking feature with Mudlet. MXP is a way for the game to tell your client (Mudlet) how certain things on the screen should be handled, and give extra functionality like the game sending you a link you can click on to send text back to the game. Achaea uses it, for example, to make all of the exits clickable links.

I think it's more trouble than it's worth, honestly, and I've never used it even with clients that supported it. However, I know that some people want it so I still support it being added to Mudlet. I also think that Achaea enabling it by default for all new characters is terrible on their part, but they do that because their flash/java clients both support it.

Right now Mudlet only supports certain client side MXP tags and nothing from the game.

This is clearly a bug of the Achaea server. Even if you have turned MXP off server side it will be reenabled by the server randomly on new logins. You should report this bug to the Achaea admins. There's nothing we can do about it.
