Requesting Hotkey Freedom

Post by Runner »

Would you please add an option to remove tab completion? It isn't even remotely useful for the mud I play.
And allow 'tab' to be hotkeyed?
And allow 'shift space' to be hotkeyed?
And generally remove any prohibitions on hotkeys, and just let the user hotkey whatever he wants to hotkey.

Adding more knobs and switches makes things just harder to use, because you end up with a million knobs and switches - but being able to overwrite the default keybindings with your own would certainly be good.

This isn't a request to add more knobs and switches, this is a request to allow the user to choose his own knobs and switches. Also I forgot to mention, but 'space' also isn't allowed to be hotkeyed.

I don't think it's wise to hotkey space - how will you type a sentence?

Um, don't some languages get away without a space between 'words'? ;)

(I'm thinking some ideograph based ones such as those of the Far-East...)

It's a typing game, by and large, you would think that most of the standard keys would be something you wouldn't want to turn into a hotkey... but that doesn't mean that there can't be specific exceptions where using them that way makes sense, even when working in a language that needs the key in question.

I for one agree to the request of giving users a way to modify (or remove) any Mudlet hotkeys they want.

However, this will be a major update to Mudlet code base, and imho is not currently on the road map.

Then again, this is open source, and maybe volunteers will come and join and start working on this.

to be honest, I want to use tab for target tabbing like how it is done in Nexus. I think it better to leave the default keybinding in place. but to ensure the custom keybinding can override them on the top. just my two cents.
