Would you mind updating the playSound() function to work on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10? Thanks!

We have been stuck in that this is a problem with the Qt 5.x libraries, I do not know if that has been solved in the latest builds when using MinGW.

Yeah it doesn't but you'll be installing that free upgrade to Lose, um, WIn 10 before July will you not? 
{I suppose there are a few exceptions - my main PC is a dual boot Win7 / Debian Linux and I've not got the upgrade to "take" so far because, I think, of that; but I suppose I will have to in the next few month - my problem is that I haven't booted the product from Redmond since, let me see over six weeks now and I'm not that tempted to...!
