Forum search needs to be improved

Post by Heiko »

I just got this PM:
hi,

it might just be me... but whenever i try to search anything using the forums search feature, it -always- says my terms are 'too common' and excludes them from the search, then tells me it cant search for nothing...

any ideas?

regards,
How can we improve the search function because this is really an essential part of the forum? Damian, any ideas?
It used to be alright back in the days. Has anything been changed?

It used to be alright back in the old days when we were on different forum software. It's been always this bad here... and yes, I've ran into this myself.

Yeah, searching on this forum is needlessly frustrating. Really, the "common terms filtering" should really just be removed. It's not like we're handling 4000 searches a minute.

Okay, it'll index words with 2 characters now (was min 3 before), common words threshold lowered to 2% from 5%.

That's about it of the relevant settings I found.

I fixed it again, sort of. Switched to a different search backend.
