Apple Silicon version of Mudlet

Post by Renchu »

Hi

I've just got a new MacBook air and its running Big Sur, unfortunately it appears apple now requires all programs to connect with it over the interweb and confirm it isn't a menace, I'm completely unsure what needs to happen on your end to ensure I can use Mudlet on my new Mac, but would love to get an idea of a potential timeline that this might be possible... mostly so I can understand how long it takes to make a program compliant with the new apple rules... nah of course not I wanna play on my favourite mud with Mudlet on my new Mac

Thanks
Renchu

From what I understand there is an option to give more details and "allow this application to be installed anyway" (probably with a Apple warning that you are risking your first borne if you do) - it should have some certification that proves it comes from the Mudlet project (or Vadim - our Benevolent Dictator for lifeas long as he wants), which we had to pay for. It is just that as a Free and Open Source Software project we are not going to be giving Apple 30% of our sales on their platform; maybe because 30% of nothing is, er, nothing so they are not wildly keen to make it easy for us to give away our code...

If you drop into our Discord guild there are one or two Mac (ab)users who would be better placed to advise you of the fiery hoops you might need to jump through to get Mudlet installed.

In case anyone else has this problem, it turns out you have to go to the privacy settings immediately after trying to open it otherwise it will completely ignore you tried to open it, there it will then say muddy isn’t authorised but you can authorise it if you want

As for what needs to happen on our end, we have to adjust our build system to submit the final binary executable to apple, wait on them to send back an -email- telling us it's accepted, and then send it out to you lovely people.

Yeah, that's right, I said email. Unless they've changed it recently, there's no web endpoint you can ping to find out if you've been cleared.
