GMCP is selfish?

Post by tsuujin »

Bit irritated that a couple of new GMCP options have been coded in, and then released to us as "used internally by the Nexus client". Kinda defeats the whole "open information to make the game more accessible to players" concept.

Where did you get that info from?

ATCP for a long while also had non-accessible options such as retrieving the Nexus' scripts of a player... not a problem imho.

ATCP was designed specifically to be a transfer protocol to the nexus client, and the subsequent usage of it by players was more of a byproduct. GMCP, on the other hand, is the result of Iron Realms attempting to generate more players by making the game world more accessible (through allowing developers to code more intuitive systems) per interview with Jeremy.

It's just a bit frustrating to see something new released, and then quickly realize they have no intention of it being used for anything but nexus (even though the vague description looks like it could be awesome).

Oh. Well. They just transferred those files over to GMCP from ATCP. I'm wondering about IRE.Misc though, if there's anything interesting in that. The other two aren't interesting.
